With bright colors on the horizon for Spring, I decided to hop on the bandwagon and knit this adorable sweater.  It helped that I happened to be traveling somewhere tropical when I chose this sweater and started it.  The original pattern has longer sleeves, but I chose to stop them at 3/4 length.  I’ve been enjoying wearing it in the shop, as it’s the perfect sweater for these upcoming months!  Additionally, it’s knit in one piece, from the top down, which means minimal finishing and I tried it on as I went along to ensure the best possible fit!  The Kangaroo pouch and front darts are two added details that set this sweater apart from a store-bought counterpart.  Best of all, the sweater is knit in one of my all time favorite yarns, Sweater, by Spud & Chloe.  This was my second experience with this yarn.  I also knit a gorgeous blanket with this yarn earlier in the year.  I KNOW you will love it.  Mention that you saw this yarn on our project page any time in May, and get 20% off your Spud & Chloe Sweater purchase!

We know everyone has been obsessed with the flouncy yarns currently on the market.  Many knitters, both new & old have taken to these novelty “scarf” yarns and whipping out dozens of scarves to wear, gift and even sell.  Recently one of our customers spotted a terrific top in the latest Katia book which used this yarn as embellishment on a knit top.  We were skeptical at first, but couldn’t be happier with the result.  Check out the pics and see for yourself!  Yarns used are S. Grace here, reporting in about this past Sunday where we had a special guest teacher drop by to teach a class on the ins and outs of Stephen West’s Diamondback Mitts pattern.  Will, also known as WillyG on Ravelry, provided the class with some helpful tips and tricks on how to accomplish the pattern successfully.   Will was both enthusiastic and gracious as he walked through the pattern with everyone.  No matter how many times we all asked him to repeat some of the tips that he shared, he never lost his excitement or patience with us.  He even let some of us record a video of him with our cell-phones so that we would be able to remember one of the cabling techniques that he shared.  At one point, we even had him demonstrate some rows of the pattern on giant needles and yarn.

By the end of the class, we were all sad to have to say goodbye.  It was both refreshing and fun to have Will guest teach at the Wooly Monmouth, and I for one, cannot wait until he stops by again.  For those of you who were not able to sign up for the class or missed out because it was full, we hope to bring Will back in the Spring to teach again.  We will send out a mailing list email to keep everyone informed, so please stay tuned.  For everyone who attended, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

We are more than halfway through the month of February so I wanted to share an update with all of you on my knitting resolutions.

So far, so good.  Two months, two projects, albeit small ones, are completed.  I will be posting a picture for each of my completed items and at the end of the year, will post all my knitted projects as one big collage.  I have to admit, I am kind of excited to see what the final photo gallery will look like.  I hope this knitting resolution of mine will challenge me to try some new things, maybe even a bit of simple designing.  I would love to see myself use a wider range of colors because really, how much gray yarn is one girl allowed to have.  Even at the shop when new shipments arrive, everyone immediately knows that if there is anything in the gray family that I will without a doubt be drawn to it.

So I am here and now going to add another resolution to my list: 6.  Knit 1 thing in each of the ROYGBIV color spectrum list.

Hi everyone!  This is Grace, one of your resident Wooly employees just dropping in.  I thought that if I put my knitting resolutions out there that I would be more likely to keep them.  Anyone else out there have any knitting related reslutions for the new year?   Please share.  Maybe we can cheer each other on.

By the way…this is the year of the Black Dragon or some say the Water Dragon.  It’s supposed to be an especially lucky year.  Let’s hope so, because I think we could all use it.

Grace’s Knitting Resolutions for 2012

1.  I will complete 1 project a month whether it be picking up that long neglected project or something new.

2.  I will complete at least 2 sweaters in 2012.

3.  I will remember that knitting is relaxing and fun.  Don’t stress over the mistakes.

4.  For every 3 projects that I complete, I will knit a hat for donation.

5.  I will regulary post on the Wooly blog.

Happy New Year!  January’s Project comes to you six days late, simply because our fingers were flying on this project in an effort to post it for January.  This hooded cowl is a new pattern called “Bluster“  The pattern was written by me and will be for sale on Ravelry shortly, however you can receive a free copy with purchase of the yarn for this project!   With a US #10.5 needle and 5 skeins of Misty Alpaca Chunky this piece is all you need to get you through the cold winter months.  It’s easily knit in two pieces and looks great with or without the hood!
