Knitting and Crochet Classes at Wooly Monmouth

Group Beginner Knitting Class:
Learn the basics necessary to begin a hat, scarf, sweater, or tank top.   After this class you may come in during store hours as you continue this project.   Class is limited to four people. Weekday classes are 6pm-9pm, Sundays are 10am-1pm
Class Dates: Group Classes will resume in the Fall. Private beginner lessons are available for the summer.

Private Beginner Knitting Class:
Same as the group class, however this is one-on-one and shorter in length.   Classes are 1 hour 45 minutes and are available by appointment only.

Mother/Daughter Beginner Knitting Class:
Learn to knit with your child ages 7-12. Information covered will depend upon age of the child.   Classes are 2 hours and are available by appointment only.

Does following a pattern scare you? Are you never sure what size to make? What about substituting yarns? This lecture-based class will teach you to:
Properly read a schematic to determine garment sizing
Understand pattern and knitting terminology
Rread a yarn label and properly substitute yarns
Knit and measure a proper gauge swatch

Learn to Fix Mistakes
For those of you who are deathly afraid of taking out mistakes! This two-hour workshop will teach you how to rip out rows of work on the knit side, purl side and in ribbing. You will also successfully pick up dropped stitches in Stockinette, Garter and Ribbing.

    Take this class to properly assemble the sweater you have worked so hard to complete.   Class is a one-on-one, private session.   Two sessions may be necessary.

    Create your own personalized agenda during this class.   Whether a beginner or experienced knitter or crocheter, you can always brush up on your skills or learn new tricks!     Learn the basic crochet stitches: single, double, half double, etc.   Good for making afghans, baby blankets, hats, and kippot.

    Sock Knitting Workshop
    This is your opportunity to knit a pair of socks. This is a nice treat for you or a great holiday gift! You will finish a pair of socks in this 3-part series. This workshop will teach you to:

    • Knit in the round on Double Pointed Needles OR on 2 circular needles
    • Learn several different decreasing methods
    • Pick up stitches
    • Turn a sock heel
    • Shape a sock toe
    • Use the 3-needle bind off or Kitchener Stitch to graft the toe stitches.

    Knit a Teddy Bear
    Cuddly soft and fun-to-make, everyone loves Bobbi Bear. This three-part class will take you start to finish with Bobbi Bear. A basic knowledge of knit, purl, increasing & decreasing is required for this class.

    Mitten Knitting Workshop:
    Want to start your Holiday knitting? Want to progress beyond a scarf, but aren't ready to tackle a sweater? If so, Mittens are the answer. Mittens are quick projects, use little yarn, and are the perfect challenge to spice up your knitting In this three hour class you will:

    • Learn to knit in the round, on double-pointed needles
    • Create a thumb gusset which involves picking up and increasing stitches
    • Decrease in the round
    • Perform the three-needle bind off

    Twisted Stitch & Cable Workshop
    Cabled garments appear intimidating, but they are very approachable. Learn the basics of cable and twisted stitches during this class and create your own custom-designed cable hat or purse.

    Knitting With Beads
    Make beautiful beaded bags, wristwarmers, pillows and whatever else you can dream up! Learn several different methods of embellishing your knitted garments with beads. You will then have the option of starting one of several different projects to employ your newly accomplished skill

    Fair Isle Knitting Basics
    Learn to make beautiful Nordic sweaters using this basic fair isle technique. You will learn to:

    • Knit with yarn in the "opposite hand"
    • Use the two-handed knitting technique
    • Understand the basics of reading charts

    Always baffled by short-rows? Don’t know how to W&T? Take this brief workshop to understand the basics of short rows and what they do.     Crochet Borders and Appliqués
    Through crochet, you can find new ways to spice up your basic knitted sweaters, scarves and ponchos. In this class, learn several different crochet borders and learn how to properly crochet on a knitted garment. You will also make several different crochet flowers which make wonderful appliqués or brooches. A basic understanding of knit or crochet is required for this class.

    Entrelac at Last!
    You have all asked for it and here it is. Learn to make a beautiful woven fabric used in the construction of one-of-a-kind wraps, pillows, hats, bags & sweaters. Build on basic skills and learn to:

    • Work short rows
    • Knit back backwards to eliminate turning your work on short numbers of stitches
    • Learn several different decreases
    • Grow your knitting stitch vocabulary!
